Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrated his 78th birthday with traditional military honors and public festivities at Stockholm Palace.

The king was greeted with a 21-gun salute from Skeppsholmen, colorful bouquets from children, and military music performances from the Royal Swedish Army Band.

Members of the royal family made a balcony appearance, and the public was invited to the outer courtyard to extend their greetings.

The celebration also included a performance of the military march, Marcia Carolus Rex.
