Sweden to Accelerate Ukrainian Refugees' Integration

The Swedish government, in collaboration with the Sverigedemokraterna, has announced a significant policy shift aimed at facilitating the integration of Ukrainian refugees into Swedish society.

A new proposal will enable Ukrainians who have been in Sweden for a year under the mass flight directive to be registered in the population register, granting them Swedish personal numbers.

This change is expected to improve their access to the labor market through the Employment Service's establishment program, offering a daily allowance of 308 SEK, a significant increase from the current maximum daily allowance of 71 SEK.

However, the plan does not extend to entitlements like child allowances or housing benefits, and some refugees will continue to receive only 71 SEK per day.

The policy, costing the state 137.6 million SEK in 2024 and 1.4 billion in 2025, is set to take effect from November 1, 2024..
