New Uppsala Bridge Stuck, Traffic Chaos Ensues

Listen to the article

The recently inaugurated Tullgarns Bridge in Uppsala, which was meant to redirect traffic from Islandsbron and alleviate congestion, has encountered a significant setback as it became stuck in its raised position due to a construction fault exacerbated by warm weather.

Authorities had to close the bridge and redirect traffic back to Islandsbron, which had been closed to vehicles.

This unexpected turn of events occurred just a week after the bridge's opening, highlighting challenges in the transition to new traffic patterns in the city.

Despite a traffic ban on Islandsbron, hundreds of vehicles continued to use it, indicating a lack of awareness or adherence to new regulations.

There is currently no forecast for when the Tullgarns Bridge will be operational again..
