Crisis for Christian Democrats Ahead of EU Elections

Listen to the article

The Christian Democrats (Kristdemokraterna) in Sweden are facing a significant crisis ahead of the EU elections, polling at a mere 2.3% according to a recent survey by Indikator for Ekot, which would see them fall below the threshold for the European Parliament.

This marks a dramatic decline from the 8.6% support they received in the 2019 EU elections.

In a surprising move, the party has replaced its top candidates Sara Skyttedal and David Lega with Alice Teodorescu Måwe and Ella Kardemark, both relatively untested in EU politics.

Critics, including Aftonbladet's editorial, doubt Teodorescu Måwe's ability to revive the party's fortunes.

The party's struggle comes amid broader shifts in Swedish political dynamics, with the Green Party doubling its support in EU polls and the Sweden Democrats experiencing a slight decline..
