Sweden has seen a disturbing surge in reported antisemitic hate crimes, with a near fivefold increase from October to December 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), 110 incidents were reported, marking a significant rise in such crimes, particularly in the regions of West and South Sweden.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer and Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand have expressed deep concern over this trend, describing it as a 'dark development' and 'terrible', respectively.

The government has responded by initiating measures to combat antisemitism, including the establishment of a working group and allocating funds to enhance the security of the Jewish community in Sweden..
